This intriguing collection of pieces for clarinet, cello and piano moves away from the standard and more familiar pieces into the realms of unfairly neglected masterpieces for the attractive combination of instruments, played by the very gifted musicians of the Trio di Buson, who take their name from the third piece on the album, a ballet-like score for trio, composed by the eminent young American musician John Alan Rose, who is also the pianist on this splendidly-recorded new album. Mendelsohn’s F minor Konzertstück is the earliest of the three works, and was composed in the early 1830s, and is a striking example of his fluently melodious writing. Vincent d’Indy’s Trio is a neglected gem of French chamber music, and John Alan Rose’s delightfully attractive ’Buson’s Ballet’ - a succession of dance-like movements of wide appeal.
